Funchal campaign against animal abandonment

City launches first campaign

Funchal campaign against animal abandonment 1The Diario features a report that Câmara Municipal do Funchal launched its first municipal campaign against animal abandonment yesterday, under the theme “Be different, say NO to abandonment.” Over the course of a month, in midsummer, the Municipality will initiate more than a dozen actions “with a view to raising awareness among the population of changing behaviour regarding this scourge, which unfortunately recurs each year”.

The mayor was present this afternoon in one of the campaign’s actions, with a walk for dogs in the parish of São Martinho, between Assicom Square (Enforcado roundabout) and Jardim da Ajuda, where several dozen animals and owners participated. Not sure why it is called Assicom Square, as it is clearly a large roundabout, with the landmark “Fallen Angel” statue in the middle? Assicom refers to the Association of Industrial Construction in Madeira, formed in 1932, and still operating as far as I am aware – rather poor website here.
