Rain possible on Corpus Christi
There is a poor forecast for the public holiday today celebrating Corpus Christi , with what the Journal describes as a possibility of weak downpours (can you have weak downpours?) especially on the south coast of Madeira in the early afternoon. The wind will also be weak, less than 15 km/h in Funchal, where temperatures will be no higher than 24ºC. The weather seems to be continuing the usual June pattern described here a couple of days ago.
Regarding the sea, forecasts predict northwesterly waves of 1 – 1.5 metres on the north coast, while on the south coast, the waves will be less than 1 metre. The sea temperature of the will be around 21ºC. Despite the poor forecast the UV index will be very high, at level 8.
Today is Corpus Christi, which is a movable feast celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. Trinity Sunday itself is the Sunday following Pentecost, eight weeks after Easter Day. The earliest possible Thursday celebration falls on 21 May (as in 1818 and 2285), the latest on 24 June (as in 1943 and 2038).
