Marine litter to become work of art

Four tons of marine litter collected in Madeira 1The Diario reports on the recent marine litter campaign, which took place over a month and involved 35 organisations and institutions throughout Madeira, Porto Santo, Desertas and Selvagens islands. This facilitated the collection of four tons of marine litter on the archipelago – material that the artist Bordalo II will use to create a work of art that will remain in Câmara de Lobos and will be inaugurated next Saturday.
“The fight against the pollution of the sea is a priority of this government,” assures Susana Prada. The regional secretary for Environment and Natural Resources, who made a positive contribution to this campaign, highlights the effort made in combating marine pollution.
“Since 2015 we have a strategy to combat marine pollution and the results are clear to everyone, with a substantial improvement in the quality of bathing water. However, this is not a job that we can do alone, so we launched an appeal to the population to fight with us the pollution of the seas of the region and it was with great satisfaction that we have seen the adhesion of hundreds of people to our challenge to collect marine litter” she said.

  1. I find it so frustrating that they don’t recycle properly….. However, this is a bigger problem than this island’s litter it’s marine traffic that treat the oceans as their dustbins…shame on them……
