Small earthquake off Porto Santo.
The Diario reports that an earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale was recorded last night north of Porto Santo, according to the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).According to IPMA, the shock occurred at 8:16 pm, but, apparently, it was not felt by the population.
This is the second one in a short period – there was another small earthquake at the start of the month.
€132 million from Lisbon for new hospital in Madeira
A communiqué of the Council of Ministers published yesterday on the website of the Government of the Republic of Portugal confirmed that funding has been approved for the construction of a new hospital on the island. The announcement stated that central government would “provide financial support for the construction and supervision of the contract, as well as for the acquisition of medical and hospital structural equipment for the future Central Hospital of Madeira.”
The new hospital is a long awaited and much needed project, previously reported here on numerous occasions going back to 2009 – anybody interested can use the search facility in the sidebar.
