More airport problems in high winds

More airport problems - cancellationsProblems developed again at the airport last night, with the last flight landing at 18.20 before high winds set in. So far this morning things don’t look a great deal better, with Porto and Lisbon flights cancelled, and flights diverted to Porto Santo and elsewhere waiting for conditions to improve. Will update the airport problems here. Link to Airport website on Links tab above.
The Diario reports that  Funchal-based football club Marítimo’s junior team, and their U23 team, both of whom were playing against Lisbon opposition, were retained at Humberto Delgado Airport due to the condition of the air links and cannot return to Madeira today. TAP has already informed the representatives of the club that it does not assume responsibility in this situation. In the other direction, due to the wind problems at Madeira Airport, Marítimo B could not travel to the mainland today for their fixture.

09.30: no flights now expected until 10.10. Interestingly two easyJet flights from Lisbon and Porto have been diverted this morning – they don’t normally leave if there is the slightest chance that they may not land.

10.30: Three flights have landed in the last 45 minutes, so conditions seem to be improving.

12.00: A dozen or so flights have landed now without problem.

  1. We love Madeira, came for many years however you guys need to get your act together and reword the allowable wind landing classification back to advisorary . Won’t be coming again until something is done. Need to give pilots back responsibility.
