Gonçalo M. Tavares awarded Young Europeans Literary Award

Gonçalo M. Tavares awarded Young Europeans Literary Award, for his book ” O
Senhor Kraus” (Mister Kraus – not yet translated into English).

Published in 2005, “O Senhor Kraus” is the fifth title in the series “O
Bairro” (The Neighbourhood), which includes ten books. Its about a
journalist invited to write a newspaper column about politics. He accepts,
and in order to comment on political events he does it by resorting to
sarcasm and irony. He creates three characters – the Chief and two
assistants – who become players in a number of satirical episodes and
dialogues on politics.

Gonçalo Manuel Tavares was born in August 1970 in Luanda, Angola. He started
publishing in 2001 and since then has been awarded several important prizes.
His books have been published in more than 30 countries and the book
“Jerusalém” has been included in the European edition of “1001 books to read

  1. Santa Cruz car rally tomorrow …. many roads closed for most of the day! Rally stages start at approx 1300 hrs and last untill 1800 hrs but most roads will be closed from early morning – including around Gaula and up to Aguas Mansa.
Exciting to watch if not a little noisy!

  2. Can anybody clarify the position with the proposed TAP Cabin Crew strikes in June/July – the TAP web site says it is cancelled – but is that the end of the matter?

    Reply
    • it seems that the unions have cancelled the strikes for June and July, because TAP is believed (not officially confirmed) to have made a counter offer to compensate for a reduction in air crew on each flight. The offer is said to be more free TAP flights for employees and their families. Some trade eh! I don’t think it will be the end of the matter somehow, with privatisation and further cuts possibly in the pipeline.
