Doctors optimistic that Alberto João Jardim can return to his political career after heart attack
The Madeiran Diario Newspaper reports that doctors treating Alberto João Jardim, The President of the Regional Government of Madeira hospitalised at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for a heart attack 2 days ago are optimistic that he can return to his political career after he recuperates.
“First elected in 1978, Alberto João Jardim has since then been successively elected President of the Regional Government of Madeira. He is a member of the:
-Council of State of the Portuguese Republic as the President of the Regional Government of Madeira
-State Defense Council of the Portuguese Republic
-State Internal Defense Superior Council of the Portuguese Republic
-Homeland Security Superior Council of the Portuguese Republic.
He is one of the longest-serving, democratically elected leaders of any jurisdiction in the world.
Alberto João Jardim is also a member and ex-Vice President (2000–2001) of the European Union Committee of the Regions. He is Honorary President of the European Summit of Regions & Cities.
He is the founder and a member of the Assembly of European Regions. He was Vice-President of European People’s Party.”

Saipem 7000 the world’s second largest crane vessel, after the Thialf is moored at the Port of Funchal.

The crane radius of the Saipem 7000 grants a lifting capability of 14,000 tonnes at 42 meters while the Thialf can lift 14,200 tonnes at 31.2 meters. It is owned by the oil and gas industry contractor Saipem S.p.A.

First Portuguese-American to be elected state senator in New York
“Jack Martins (R-Mineola) says he believes he’s the first Portuguese-American to be elected state senator in New York. Martins told about 200 people in the Capitol’s Senate chamber after his swearing-in that his parents came from Portugal in the 1960s, before he was born.”

He explained later that his family is originally from northern Portugal, and he visits “once or twice every year.” As a former president of the New York State Portuguese Civic Association, Martins said he’s proud of this first – as difficult as it may be to quickly document.
Portuguese journalist Carlos Castro murdered in US
“Celebrity Portuguese television journalist Carlos Castro has been found murdered in a New York hotel.
Castro, who also was a columnist and author apart from his TV work, was admired for his bravery in coming out as a gay man.”
