Chit-Chat & Today’s Photo … Casa Parsons

TODAY’S PHOTO : Casa Parsons over in Santa Cruz (there is a link on the right if you want to book a stay there. People speak very highly of it, especially Debs cuisine).

Today I would like to to make a mention of the fine people at the tax office (IRS / Finanças). Three times now they have bent over backwards to help me, over and above the call of duty. I quite often hear bad feedback on people’s experiences with the IRS, and whilst the process of visiting can be arduous, on this occasion 3 visits and a couple of hours waiting over 2 days, but they did me proud once again. I have been helped out three times now, when each time they could have rightfully said no it’s my fault, or I missed the deadline, or that’s the law, and just left me in a pickle. Thanks folks! If only I could find the same attitudes at the Social Security Office, I would be a happy (and slightly better off) bunny.

  1. Casa Parsons looks neat and tidy.
I wonder what discount bloggers get if they stay there for a few weeks?
Following up on the previous remarks testerday about Tourist Board input–
in my mind they could put an effort into making sure the footways of pedestrian areas have all the cracks and hazards filled in and levelled.
This would mean them ‘having a go’ at the relevent authority.
Many, many people go ‘ar** over head’ due to uneven kerbs, roads and pavements.
Some areas of Funchal are worse than others.
Most of the people in England I have spoken to about Madeira, like the island and people, etc, but hate the uneven walkways and steep gradients.
There is no shortage of unemployed builders who could do the repair work.
    Steep gradients–hard cheese.
How Der would get on after a ‘lock in’ at his local would hardly bear thinking about.

  2. Thank you Martin. Bloggers discount indeed offered, details on request! By the way, our terraces are all on the level with no hazards – although that might depend on how much Madeira one drinks!?! I certainly had to have a glass (or two) last night as I watched the full moon rise over the glistening sea………..spectacular!
    Take care every.
    Jon.

  3. ‘Lock ins’ are a thing of the past now Martin, the venues are closed down or close early, and of course I have to rise early with clear head to dig out the top new stories.

As for falling over in Funchal, you can complain to the council and receive up to €500 compensation for damage / injury. Higher claims have to go through the insurance. There are probably people making a living this way.

  4. How about the poor German tourist in a ‘state of the art’ racing wheelchair with his burning and smoking gloves trying to slow down on the hill on the way into Funchal from the Casino area?
In the end he had to run into the wall by the park gates.
I didn’t know what to do.
Warn visitors to Madeira in wheelchairs that they need water cooled braking gloves.
    Perhaps Ferodo can help.

  7. Tobi,
The free phone calls should have started. I e-mailed them and received confirmation on Monday 3rd August. They said they are free 9pm to 9am Monday to Sunday, (I assume they mean landlines not mobiles).
Check the details on their website zonmadeira.pt.

  8. Hi there this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding experience so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
